Reading all these comments it seems not a lot has changed from when I had a full term still birth 51 years ago I too was in a normal delivery ward I was in a side ward on my own but there were babies further down I had to ask for more sanitary wear and the nurse said to go to main cupboard This was in the middle of the main wards 4 beds in each In there were the ladies I had been with on the anti natal ward Of course they asked whether I had a boy or girl while they nursed their babies It was very hard to tell them I had lost mine It was my second thankfully I had a little girl waiting at home and went on to have a son There was no help in those days you were discharged and that was it Soon after I had a letter from the hospital asking if I wanted them to basically sort out removal of the baby I left them to do it I never saw my baby and regret that to this day but I was too scared of what she would look like because I knew before she was born that she would be stillborn Many years later I wanted to find out what had happened to her and spent many hours and phone calls and eventually located her burial spot I advertised in the local paper for any other mothers to come forward if they wanted to hold a memorial service The funeral directors paid for a beautiful headstone for the spot as stillborns were buried together in a large vault my mother and I thought of the inscription The funeral directors even laid on a small tea and cakes after The church was full and I was happy to know my baby was only a short distance away from where my lovely nan laid at rest Sorry if this story is a bit long.
